Saskatchewanderer impressed with living skies above Swift Current

Caitlin Taylor, aka The Saskatchewanderer, was just one of many out of town guests who descended upon Swift Current for the Windscape Kite Festival.

The former U of S student has spent the year travelling around the province and on June 21 and 22 she was in Swift Current to see what the festival had to offer.

“I was just amazed at how well it’s organized,” she said during a quick break in her duties. “All the volunteers know exactly what’s happening and there’s signage and people are having a great time. There’s lots and lots of activities for kids and for adults, for everyone really. It’s been fun.”

This is Taylor’s second trip to Swift Current as part of the Saskatchewanderer program, although last time it was just a brief stop over on her way through to Cypress Hills.

This time she’s had more of a chance to take in Swift Current, and she said she’s impressed with what she saw.

“I was a little confused by the one-way streets at first, but I found my way around,” she said with a laugh. “The downtown core seems really cultural and there’s quite a bit going on. It’s really pretty too.”

The Saskatchewanderer program was originally set up as a summer program to showcase Saskatchewan tourism.

It’s expanded since then into a yearlong program to help display the other benefits which make the province a good place to live and work.

“I’m always continuously blown away by how much there actually is to do and see,” Taylor said. “I’ve been to some parts of Saskatchewan before, but having the chance to go everywhere has been really cool.”

In fact, there may be too much for Taylor to see in one year, although she’s going to try. She’s also documenting her exploits, which you can follow at w w w. s a s k a t c h e w a n - derer.ca, and hoping that her trip inspires others to get out and see what the province has to offer.

“I think that helps people see that it’s something that they can do. They don’t just read a description saying ‘ you can do this.’

“Here I am actually doing it and it’s really fun, and here’s other things you can do to. I think it helps inspire people to get out there and do it themselves.”
