Cowboys find money at Warman Rodeo

Southwest cowboys were able to win a pair of roughstock events at the Warman Rodeo.

Eleven Southwest competitor­s were able to bring home money from the Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n rodeo stop in Warman earlier this month.

Piapot’s Casey Bertram scored 78 points on Buttercup to win Saddle Bronc and collected $704.

Consul’s Monty Koopman tied for top spot in Bareback with a 76-point ride on The Juice for $ 504 after tying Brock’s Clayton Strutt.

Swift Current’s Linden Woods tied for third after he rode Sweet Apple Pie for 72 points and Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram rode C.b. for 72 points and $216 apiece.

Mankota’s April Williamson finished second in Ladies Barrel Racing in 13.43 seconds for $1,044.

She was just behind Hilda, Alberta’s Korilye Kundert’s winning time of 13.42 seconds.

Swift Current’s Keith Folk was one of three cowboys to break the 10second barrier in Tie Down Roping when he finished third in 9.2 seconds for $495.

Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod placed sixth in 11.7 seconds for $ 130. The event was won by Cremona’s Aaron Miller in 8.9 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko placed fourth in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.89 seconds for $64.

St. Paul, Alberta’s Elizabeth Lukacs won the barrel racing event in 13.63 seconds.

Waldeck’s Tee and Tyce McLeod rounded out the Southwest money winners with a fifth-place finish in Team Roping in 9.2 seconds for $351.

Kyle Chappel (Gravelbour­g) and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) won the event in 5.5 seconds.

The CCA is back in the Southwest this weekend for the Frontier Days Rodeo in Swift Current on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
