Baseball Sask leaves Swift Current out of AA Provincials
To the editor: Baseball Sask. demonstrates once again its inability to govern the game of baseball fairly in the province of Saskatchewan.
The board of governors voted the Swift Current Pee Wee Indians to be excluded from provincial playdowns, taking away our kids opportunity to compete for the provincial title. Even our own zone directors and governor seem to be unable or unwilling to represent the athletes of southwest Saskatchewan in the voting process.
However, Baseball Sask.’s own handbook states on pg 42 “MORE teams can enter into the final” but nothing is written about excluding teams from Provincial playdowns. Yet this is exactly what this elite group is mandating. fIn fact the rules state;
Baseball centers with a population of 6,500-50,000 shall compete in the AA division.
The executive members overruled on the own policy, mandating the only way SC would be allowed to play provincials was to register for the AAA division. This division is reserved for baseball centers over 50,000! But is doesn’t stop there. In order to be allowed to compete in the AAA division, the Swift Cur- rent Pee Wee team would have to guarantee we will NOT go to Nationals if we WIN!!! Unless we agree to these conditions BS (Baseball Sask) will not even allow the Swift Current Pee Wee team to compete at all!!!
Our city should be outraged that the larger cities politics to win triumph fair play, competitive spirit, and sportsmanship. Shame on you BS members. Come on people of Saskatchewan this is an embarrassment to our province, and the great game of baseball.
