Redneck Betties bounce back with convincing win

- STEVEN MAH SOUTHWEST BOOSTER

The Redneck Betties reclaimed their home track Saturday with a convincing win over the rival Moose Jaw lil Chicago Jawbreakers. The Betties bounced back from a lopsided loss to the Regina Sugar Skulls on May 31 with a 381-135 win over the rival Jawbreakers, taking a commanding lead in the second jam that they would never relinquish. Veteran Trixie Vixen was named the Redneck Betties’ Player of the Game after a strong performance as both a blocker and a jammer.

“It feels really good considering we came off a really hard, you might want to say devastating, but it was a hard game and we learned a lot in that last one. So we have been doing a lot of different strategy techniques and just working on making them better. That was tonight’s game was just using some of those skills, just do them under pressure, but just execute them really well,” she said.

“The game was really exciting tonight,” added RoundTrip. “We were looking forward to it. It was what we hoped it would be and we look forward to playing our next game in September.”

Trixie Vixen said they wanted to test their depth against Moose Jaw.

The General Lee (right) sent a lil Chicago Jaw Breakers jammer clear off the track with a huge hit early in the second half Saturday.

“This time we worked with three lines, something that we had been doing at practice. So we did a three- line rotation tonight, which we haven’t done for awhile. This game we rotated with seven jammers instead of our normal three or four, just to make everybody have a job, no matter who is injured, which was a main component of our last game.

It was about finding out how we can play if we are down anybody. I think we just wanted to bounce back from our last game. We wanted a positive outcome and that is exactly what we got.

“We are all happy about it and we will go into the next one off that high,” said RoundTrip.

The Betties played the Jawbreakers in their very first home game four years ago.

“Unfortunately they have yet to have a win against us. It is nice to play against them. They had split for awhile and they are back together as a team, which has honestly made them stronger and I know they have been training really hard,” said Trixie Vixen.

Trixie Vixen said the game, despite the onesided score, was important for the Betties.

“We are really challenging ourselves to play in roles where we are not necessarily used to so that we are 100 percent wellrounded players. So no matter what happens it is like ‘oh we have done this before there is no big deal.’”

RoundTrip has been with the Betties for the past two seasons and has seen action with the Veronicas as well this season.

“This was probably the most I have played at home. I was hoping for that and it happened and I was very excited about it. I feel I contributed and it felt great, it felt awesome.”
