Tough weeekend for Southwest rodeo competitors
It was a tough weekend for Southwest competitors at Canadian Cowboys’ Association rodeos over the June 14-15 weekend.
The Southwest produced only one money winner at the Long Creek Rodeo in Radville. Swift Current’s Kevin Folk won Tie Down Roping in Radville in 8.9 seconds to bring home $532. The Southwest fared slightly better at the Pilot Butte Rodeo with seven money winners, including two event winners.
JC Curley, riding out of Success, won Bull Riding with an 81-point ride on Kyle Ag & Auto to earn $1,917.
The Southwest produced four of the top six finishers in Tie Down Roping, including Mankota’s Shawn Williamson, who won the event in 8.7 seconds for $629. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes placed third in 9.6 seconds for $412, followed by Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer in fifth spot in 10.9 seconds for $303. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod was sixth in 11.1 seconds for $108.
Mankota’s Karlie Cowie placed third in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 14.47 seconds for $117. Eyebrow’s Danita Esmond won the event in 14.34 seconds.
Maple Creek’s Cali Yarshenko was the final money winner in seventh spot in Ladies Barrel Racing in 14.01 seconds for $237. Medicine Hat’s Alex Hanson topped the 65-competitor field in 13.5 seconds.
The CCA will be in Swift Current this weekend for the Frontier Days Rodeo from Friday until Sunday.
