Organizers look back on ‘very successful’ Frontier Days / Centennial Homecoming weekend
Organizers say they’re pleased with how Frontier Days mixed with Swift Current’s Centennial Celebrations, calling it “the best ever.”
Lenora Bells, event development co-ordinator for the Swift Current Ag and Ex, said the weekend was very successful.
“The evaluation that I get from people who talk to me, and talk to other staff, is that everyone was very impressed with Frontier Days,” she said.
“I really do think it was the best ever.”
Bells said they don’t have the attendance figures tallied yet, but noted how almost every event was full. The bigger events, like the rodeo and parade, were especially well attended.
“It sounds like the parade was just a hit because it was bigger and ( had) a wider variety,” she said. “I even hear the people who were in the parade stated how they were just amazed, how when they were coming down the route there was just rows and rows of people.”
The weather did prove to be a bit troublesome on the weekend, but Bells wasn’t disappointed with it. She said the crowds weren’t as big as the could have been, but there was still significant interest in most of the events taking place.
“There was a moderate amount of people out and about, so there was still that interest.”
Bells said the uniqueness of the weekend helped keep people interested, even when the weather wasn’t at it’s best. In particular, the wide variety of entertainment options helped keep attendance levels up.
“We had a few new things going on as far as pavilions and the SIGA tent and cabarets and free stage entertainment that we haven’t done before,” she said. “We think that, on the whole, things were very successful.”
Now that the event is over Bells and her colleagues can enjoy a little bit of downtime. This event wouldn’t have been possible without them, she said.
“I think that we’re lucky to have these people that spend that time organizing it and have the connections to bring in the people that make it a really interesting and lively event,” she concluded. “I also think that the volunteers have just been great. They just stepped up to the plate and we’re so lucky in the Swift Current community to have that support.”
