Kreutzer tops Sad­dle Bronc in Cen­tral Butte

An­other Cana­dian Cow­boys’ As­so­ci­a­tion rodeo close to home proved to be a wel­come stop for South­west com­peti­tors.

13 cow­boys and cow­girls from the South­west were able to bring home money from the Cen­tral Butte Rodeo on June 20-21, in­clud­ing wins in two events.

Leading the way was Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer when he won Sad­dle Bronc with a 75-point ride on But­ter­cup for $453. Mike Gor­don, also out of Maple Creek, placed third in Sad­dle Bronc with a 73-point ride on Amer­i­can Leg­end for $226.

Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko was the other event win­ner when she topped Ju­nior Girls Bar­rel Rac­ing in 15.38 sec­onds for $198. Maple Creek’s Hal­lie An­der­son was fourth in 15.64 sec­onds for $49.

Mankota’s Shawn Wil­liamson placed sec­ond in Tie Down Rop­ing in 9.4 sec­onds to col­lect $401. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod placed fourth in 10.6 sec­onds for $234. York­ton’s Matt Switzer, for­merly of Swift Cur­rent, won the event in 9.0 sec­onds.

Val Marie’s Ri­ley Hayes added a sec­ond-place fin­ish in Steer Wrestling in 6.4 sec­onds for $421. Red Deer County’s Lan­don Beardswort­h won the event in only 4.5 sec­onds.

Mankota’s April Wil­liamson added an­other sec­ond-place fin­ish for her fam­ily when she fin­ished in 14.64 sec­onds in Ladies Bar­rel Rac­ing for $686 be­hind only Vans­coy’s Re­nie Sch­nit­zler in 14.53 sec­onds. Ste­wart Val­ley’s Janet-Lynn Moen was sixth in 15.08 sec­onds for $143.

Three South­west combos placed top-five in Team Rop­ing. Waldeck’s Scott and Tuftin McLeod were sec­ond in 6.8 sec­onds for $1,036. Matt Switzer and Swift Cur­rent’s Blaine Switzer were third in 10.8 sec­onds for $820. Val Marie’s Wy­att Hayes and Mankota’s Shawn Wil­liamson were fifth in 12.7 sec­onds for $216. Kyle Chap­pel (Grav­el­bourg) and Brady Chap­pel (Moose Jaw) won the event in 6.0 sec­onds.

Maple Creek’s Brady Resch placed third in Ju­nior Steer Rid­ing with a score of 73 for $117 to round out the money win­ners.

The CCA is back in Saskatchew­an this weekend for rodeos in Moo­somin and Keli­her. Ross Kreutzer is 10th in the Cana­dian Cow­boys’ As­so­ci­a­tion Sad­dle Bronc standings this sea­son. The Maple Creek cow­boy led Sad­dle Bronc af­ter day one at the Fron­tier Days Rodeo with a 75-point ride on Boot Barn.
