Kreutzer tops Saddle Bronc in Central Butte

Another Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n rodeo close to home proved to be a welcome stop for Southwest competitor­s.

13 cowboys and cowgirls from the Southwest were able to bring home money from the Central Butte Rodeo on June 20-21, including wins in two events.

Leading the way was Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer when he won Saddle Bronc with a 75-point ride on Buttercup for $453. Mike Gordon, also out of Maple Creek, placed third in Saddle Bronc with a 73-point ride on American Legend for $226.

Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko was the other event winner when she topped Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.38 seconds for $198. Maple Creek’s Hallie Anderson was fourth in 15.64 seconds for $49.

Mankota’s Shawn Williamson placed second in Tie Down Roping in 9.4 seconds to collect $401. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod placed fourth in 10.6 seconds for $234. Yorkton’s Matt Switzer, formerly of Swift Current, won the event in 9.0 seconds.

Val Marie’s Riley Hayes added a second-place finish in Steer Wrestling in 6.4 seconds for $421. Red Deer County’s Landon Beardswort­h won the event in only 4.5 seconds.

Mankota’s April Williamson added another second-place finish for her family when she finished in 14.64 seconds in Ladies Barrel Racing for $686 behind only Vanscoy’s Renie Schnitzler in 14.53 seconds. Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen was sixth in 15.08 seconds for $143.

Three Southwest combos placed top-five in Team Roping. Waldeck’s Scott and Tuftin McLeod were second in 6.8 seconds for $1,036. Matt Switzer and Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer were third in 10.8 seconds for $820. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes and Mankota’s Shawn Williamson were fifth in 12.7 seconds for $216. Kyle Chappel (Gravelbour­g) and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) won the event in 6.0 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Brady Resch placed third in Junior Steer Riding with a score of 73 for $117 to round out the money winners.

The CCA is back in Saskatchew­an this weekend for rodeos in Moosomin and Keliher. Ross Kreutzer is 10th in the Canadian Cowboys’ Associatio­n Saddle Bronc standings this season. The Maple Creek cowboy led Saddle Bronc after day one at the Frontier Days Rodeo with a 75-point ride on Boot Barn.
