Hayes and Williamson top Couttsgras­s Team Roping

The Southwest produced 11 money winners at the Couttsgras­s Rodeo, including a couple of event winners in Bareback and Team Roping.

Consul’s Monty Koopman was the top cowboy in Bareback when he tallied 76 points on Baggage Claim for a $444 payday.

Wyatt Hayes (Val Marie) and Shawn Williamson (Mankota) posted the fastest time of 5.7 seconds to win Team Roping for $1,566. Waldeck’s Scott and Tuftin McLeod placed third in 11.2 seconds for $1,026.

Leader’s Cody Resch had a 68-point ride on Plain Jain to place second in Saddle Bronc for $544. Brandon’s Kirk Thompson picked up the win with a 71-point ride on Party Girl.

Swift Current’s Keith Folk added a third-place finish in Team Roping in 15.7 seconds for $444. Taber’s Trevor Moebis set the pace in 13.0 seconds for the win.

Maple Creek’s Quinton Bock placed fourth in Bull Riding after a 71-point ride on Red Tag for $338. Asquith’s Brian Symington won the event with an 81point ride on Registry.

Mankota’s April Williamson added some cash in Ladies Barrel Racing when she placed eighth in 16.09 seconds for $87. Diamond City’s Tammy Schuurman won the event in 15.429 seconds.

The Southwest also had success in the junior events. Maple Creek’s Brady Resch placed third in Junior Steer Riding with a 68-point ride for $180.

Maple Creek’s Hallie Anderson finished third in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.974 seconds for $239. Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson was right behind her in fourth in 16.553 seconds for $176.

The CCA remains in Saskatchew­an this week- end at the Moosimin Rodeo on Friday and Saturday and at the Carlton Trail Rodeo in Keliher on Saturday and Sunday.

The next CCA rodeo in the Southwest will be Shaunavon’s Boomtown Days Stampede on July 1819.
