High school rodeo concludes in Estevan

The Saskatchew­an High School Rodeo Associatio­n concluded another season with the Provincial Finals in Estevan.

Cabri’s Bari Phillips came out on top of a crowded Senior Barrel Racing field at the finals when she finished in 17.71 seconds. She also placed second in Goat Tying in 10.5 seconds and 20th in Poles in 27.541 seconds.

Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson had her best results in Barrel Racing as well when she placed second in 17.8 seconds. She also finished fifth in Goat Tying in 11.2 seconds and then worked with Calonna Slade (Raymore) to place fourth in Team Roping in 11.6 seconds. Williamson added a 22nd place finish in Poles in 27.782 seconds to round out her Finals results.

Neidpath’s Madison Kovar picked up a win at the Finals when she topped Breakaway Roping in 6.6 seconds. She also placed seventh in Goat Tying in 12.7 seconds, 13th in Poles in 24.73 seconds, and 14th in Barrels in 18.54 seconds. She also worked with Shyla Froshaug (Minton) to place sixth in Team Roping in 17.5 seconds.

Mankota’s Bailey Briere added another win for the Southwest when she won Poles in 21.607 seconds. She also placed 22nd in Barrels in 18.87 seconds.

Cabri’s Demi Phillips had her best result in Barrels when she finished in 18.3 seconds to place 11th. She also placed 23rd in Poles in 28.015 seconds.

Swift Current’s Talysha Gering had her best result in Poles when she placed seventh in 23.653 seconds and also finished 26th in Barrels in 19.48 seconds at the Finals.

Kincaid’s Raela Colliness placed 18th in Senior Poles in 25.906 seconds and was 33rd in Barrels in 20.94 seconds.

Swift Current’s Skylar Dickson placed 14th in Goat Tying in 27.9 seconds and was also 35th in Barrels in 22.79 seconds. She also placed 30th in Poles in 34.563 seconds.

Hazlet’s Jordyn Becker had her top result in Barrels when she placed seventh in 18.18 seconds. She also placed 24th in Poles in 28.076 seconds at the Finals.

Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod won a pair of events at the Finals. He topped Steer Wrestling in 6.4 seconds and added a second win in Tie Down Roping in 11.3 seconds. He also worked with his brother, Tee, to place seventh in Team Roping in 24.6 seconds.

Val Marie’s Riley Hayes had a pair of top-three results at the Finals. He was second in Tie Down Roping in 11.9 seconds and third in Steer Wrestling in 21.0 seconds.

Swift Current’s Ty Shea made his mark at the Finals with a second-place finish in Steer Wrestling in 10.3 seconds.

Val Marie’s Dylan Larson combined with Keaton Anderson (Rockglen) to place fifth in Team Roping in 12.6 seconds.

Waldeck’s Tee McLeod worked with his brother to place seventh in Team Roping in 24.6 seconds and also finished fourth in Tie Down in 13.8 seconds.

Swift Current’s Shay Lamb worked with Dawson Lehmann (Mayfair) to place ninth in Team Roping in 36.3 seconds.

Swift Current’s Greg Gillis placed third in Tie Down Roping at the Finals in 12.7 seconds.

Shaunavon’s Page Mizu won a pair of Junior High Finals events. She topped Goat Tying in 11.3 seconds and Poles in 21.484 seconds. Mizu also placed ninth in Barrels in 19.219 seconds.

Mankota’s Karli Cowie had a sixth-place finish in Junior High Goat Tying in 15.0 seconds and was 16th in Barrels in 26.531 seconds.

Hazlet’s Brooklyn Becker placed 11th in Junior High Barrels in 20.034 seconds.

Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld won Junior High Goat Tying in 13.4 seconds and was fourth in Bull Riding with a 57point ride at the Finals.

Maple Creek’s Ty Skene did just the opposite when he won Bull Riding with a 66-point ride and then placed fifth in Goat Tying in 13.4 seconds.

Kincaid’s Jud Colliness added a third-place showing in Junior High Goat Tying in 16.1 seconds.

The 2014 SHSRA fall season will begin on August 9-10 in Whitewood and will include rodeos in Big Beaver, Rockglen, One Arrow First Nations, Rosthern, and Martensvil­le.
