Wildcats highlight SHA Top-42 rosters

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association released its lists for three top-42 programs last week.

A total of 10 athletes with ties to the Southwest were among the 126 players named with the majority of those named to the two fe- male rosters. Tyde Hutchinson, who played the last two seasons with the Swift Current Kabos Bantam Raiders, was the only player connected to the Southwest named to the Male U16 roster.

The Scout Lake product led the Raiders with 32 goals and 15 assists in 29 regular season games and then added 11 points in five playoff games. Five girls were named to the Female U16 Top 42 roster. Gull Lake’s Taylor Kirwan and Moose Jaw’s Mikayla Swallow were among 12 defenseman. Kirwan led the Southwest Bantam A Cyclones to league and provincial titles last season and also won gold at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert. Swallow appeared in 27 reg- ular season games on the Swift Current Diamond Energy AAA Midget Wildcats’ blueline last season.

Among the 24 forwards on the U16 Female roster were Swift Current’s Kaitlyn Haubrich and Chloe Smith, as well as Maple Creek’s Danya Winzer.

Winzer finished with seven points and 14 penalty minutes in 28 games during her rookie season with the Wildcats.

She also scored twice in six playoff games. Smith skated in all 28 games for the Wildcats in her rookie season with four points and eight assists before adding a playoff goal. Haubrich played for the Swift Current Midget A Avalanche and had six points in 18 regular season games.

Four of the top Wildcats made the cut for the Female U18 Top 42 roster. Rookie goaltender Jasey Book was one of six goaltenders named. The Loreburn native was one of the top goaltenders in the SFMAAAHL last season with a 1.64 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. She played five games in the playoffs and was outstanding with a 1.75 GAA and a .942 save percentage.Joining Book was smooth skating defenseman Kayla Kirwan. The Gull Lake product had 11 points in 28 regular season games for the Wildcats.

Two-way forward Keely Chalk made the cut up front after registering eight points and 32 penalty minutes in 28 regular season games. Wildcats captain Brooklyn Haubrich completed the quartet.

The Hodgeville native led the team with 13 assists and tied for the team lead with 18 points during the regular season.
