Vienna Boys Choir to perform two shows in Swift Current

- SUBMITTED

The world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir will dazzle audiences as the second performance in the local 2014/2015 Stars for Saskatchewan series this November. The choir will take on a repertoire of motets and lieder for boys’ choir as well as arrangements of Viennese waltzes and polkas by Lehar, Lanner, and Strauss in a show which spans medieval through contemporary music.

“We are so pleased to host a performance of this calibre in our community,” notes Melanie Friesen, President of the Swift Current Allied Arts Council. “The Vienna Boys Choir gives around 300 concerts each year around the world and music lovers in the Southwest have an opportunity to see one of those concerts right here at home.”

With origins dating back to 1498 when Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians to Vienna and engaged six singing boys among his musicians, the current Vienna Boys Choir numbers around 100 cho- risters between the ages of 10 and 14. The company is divided into four touring choirs which reach almost half a million people each year through their travels.

Performances will be held on November 20 and 21 at the Sky Centre at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The November 20 show is part of the Stars for Saskatchewan concert series and a limited number of tickets are available by calling 306-773-1338 or 1-877-211-2787 or by emailing swiftcurrentartscouncil@sasktel.net. Tickets for the Nov. 21st performance can be purchased at tickets.siga.sk.ca/ or at the Living Sky Casino Box Office. All tickets are $40 each.

The Stars for Saskatchewan series is organized by the Swift Current Allied Arts Council in conjunction with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC).
