Additional flu clinics added in Cypress Health Region

-

After a successful four week influenza immunization clinic schedule in the Cypress Health Region, a series of additional clinics have been added to offer more chances for those who have yet to receive their flu shot.

Approximately 12,000 doses of vaccine have been administered during the clinic schedule which began on Oct. 14 through to the end of this past week.

These additional flu clinics will be offered in a variety of communities at the following locations:

Swift Current – E.I. Wood Building, November 14, November 28, December 5 and December 19 (8:30 a.m. to noon).

Maple Creek – Cypress Lodge Nursing Home, December 4, by appointment only (call the Maple Creek Public Health department at 1-866-7862510).

Leader – Community Services Building, December 10 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Shaunavon – Shaunavon Hospital, November 24 (9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

These clinics are dropin style unless otherwise indicated. Vaccine, including FluMist for those aged 2-17, is free for everyone. Immunization is the single most effective measure one can take to protect themselves, their family members, and others from influenza.

Dr. Kevin Wasko, President of the Cypress Regional Medical Association, notes the importance of being immunized. “Physicians working in the Cypress Health Region encourage patients to get vaccinated. It is especially important for young children, pregnant women, and the elderly who are among the most vulnerable to develop serious illness from the influenza virus. The flu vaccine is a proven, safe measure that people can take to protect themselves and those around them” says Wasko.
