Saskatchewan History publishes First World War commemorative issue
The Saskatchewan Archives Board is pleased to announce the publication of a First World War commemorative issue of its magazine, Saskatchewan History. This full-colour issue is filled with incredible photographs, artwork and compelling tales of the Saskatchewan experience during the Great War, 1914-1918.
“This commemorative issue presents a powerful glimpse into the documentary records of a century ago,” Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said.
The articles in the commemorative issue examine poignant wartime correspondence and diary entries by soldiers and nurses serving overseas; a Saskatchewan poet’s response to “In Flanders Fields”; reproductions of Great War commemorative art and wartime posters; and, a representation of what was being published in newspapers during the Great War, including a report by W.R. Motherwell which discusses the Saskatchewan war effort.
“Our government
is proud to support the Saskatchewan Archives Board in preserving the memory of Saskatchewan people who bravely fought for our province and our nation during the First World War,” Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Archives Board Mark Docherty said. “It is important that we reflect on their efforts, especially during this time of remembrance.”
