The Gull Lake Lions will be hosting the 1A six-man football provincial final on Saturday, November 15. The Lions defeated the Carrot River Wildcats in a thrilling semifinal 45-44. Hosting in Gull Lake, the Lions had a good first half leading 39-22. The Wildcats rallied in the second half but came up just short. Gull Lake will now host the North Valley Eagles from Lemberg. Lemberg earned their spot in the final by defeating Eatonia 56-26 in the other semi.

The Shaunavon Shadows football team travelled to Humboldt to take on the Mohawks in the 2A nineman semifinal. The Shadows were down at the half 23-13. The final score was 44-25 Humboldt. Congrats to the Shadows on a great season!

SHSAA volleyball playoffs are now in full swing. Thank you to all our Southwest conference hosts on Nov. 8 in girls' action: 1A - Ponteix (commission­er Kurri Darby), 2A - Fox Valley (commission­er Pat Wilde) and 4A - Maple Creek (commission­er Kyla Runnion).

In 1A girls at Ponteix, there were six teams divided into two pools of three. In Pool A, Hazlet was first (2-0), Eastend finished second (1-1) and Frontier was third (0-2). In Pool B, Cabri was first (2-0), Ponteix placed second (1-1) and Vanguard was third (0-2).

In the crossover semifinals, Hazlet edged Ponteix 2-1 (25-17, 17-25, 26-24) while Cabri beat Eastend 20 (25-17, 26-24). The final saw the Hazlet Chargers capture the conference title over the Cabri Cougars 27-25, 26-24! Cabri will now host the regional tournament on Nov. 15. Teams in attendance include Hazlet, Cabri, Glentworth, Mankota, Rouleau and Avonlea. Games will start at 9 a.m.

In 2A girls at Fox Valley, there were four teams playing a round robin to determine two advancers to regionals. The Fox Valley Legends won the conference title with a record of 3-0. The Leader Saints were second at 2-1. Beechy was third at 1-2 and Herbert fourth at 0-3. Fox Valley and Leader will now advance to regionals on Nov. 15. Regionals will be held in Leader beginning at 9 a.m. The six teams attending include Fox Valley, Leader, Kerrobert, Neilburg, Wilkie and Maymont.

In 3A girls' action in Assiniboia, two teams from the southwest - Shaunavon and Gull Lake - were vying for a spot in the regional. After the five-team round robin, Assiniboia ended up on top with a record of 4-0. Gull Lake, Shaunavon and Gravelbour­g were tied 2-2. After the math was done to determine the tiebreaker the Gull Lake Lady Lions will now advance as the second seed. They will now play in Davidson at the regional tournament on Nov. 15.

In 4A girls' action at Maple Creek, four teams were vying for two spots. Rosetown ended up in first place claiming the conference title with a record of 3-0. Outlook was second at 2-1. The Maple Creek Rebelles were third at 1-2. The Rebelles had some great matches. They beat Kindersley in the first match 25-22, 25-19. They lost to Outlook 25-20 and 25-16.
