SwiftLink aiming to make a difference

- SUBMITTED

SwiftLink’s kickoff event was a great success on Nov 15 at the Sky Centre. The audience of about 230 people enjoyed an evening that consisted of information on the new SwiftLink com- mittee, its purpose and goals as well as the dynamic and inspirational presentation given by Dr. Tony Campolo.

SwiftLink is a group of caring community members who have a vision of partnering the city of Swift Current with a sister city of Bom Jardim, Brazil in order to bring about community change.

Kevin Snyder, chairperson of SwiftLink, stated, “We are hoping to rally Swift Current to sponsor several hundred children in the community of Bom Jardim. As time goes on, we will target specific developmental projects to improve their situation and their sustainability in the future.”

Dr. Tony Campolo spoke passionately about how we have a responsibility to help others in this world less fortunate than us. We need to break out of our insular community mindset to expand our world view and see our bigger responsibility that exists. “Love Changes Everything”

The crowd at the Sky Centre was asked to begin our journey of helping those in Bom Jardim by sponsoring a child through World Vision. Swift Current responded as 60 children were sponsored! Imagine how 60 young children’s lives will be changed forever because of the generous and kind donations made on Nov. 15.

It is not too late for others to sponsor a child just visit www.OurSwiftLink.ca. There will be other projects to help our sister city of Bom Jardim in the future – watch for upcoming information.

As Swift Current has been celebrating 100 years as a community, we have felt the entire community come together to share our history, our stories and our successes. We are a caring, generous and compassionate community.

Nothing could generate a sense of community pride more than being able to see the difference we can make together in a desperate community in northern Brazil.

We believe we can leave a lasting legacy on a community who will think warmly and fondly of what a little city in Saskatchewan did for them personally and for their community.
