Burnett wins award for cowboy poetry
wift Current's Bryce Burnett was recently recognized for his cowboy poetry by the 2014 Great Midwest Book Festival in the U.S.
Burnett's book Homegrown and Other Poems earned one of four honourable mentions in the Poetry Category at the prestigious festival.
Burnett, a tireless volunteer with the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association, is a true representative of the Cowboy Culture of Southwest Saskatchewan, actively promoting and living the lifestyle he writes about. His good nature and genuine interest in Western heritage and culture bring about inspirations for his poetry, photos, and human nature stories. Not only is he in demand as a cowboy poet and entertainer, but also as a photographer, community volunteer, operator of Burnett Tarentaise, active 4-H leader and supporter, West- ern Agribition judge / organizer, announcer, and community event volunteer.
He and his wife Wanda continue to live on the ranch that his great grandfather established in 1907. They, along with their daughter Dena, son Wyatt, daughter-in-law Chelsea and the newest member of the Wyatt family – grandson Porter, continue to check crops and manage cattle on the homestead.
