Wildcats remain third in SFMAAAHL

he Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats and the Prince Albert Bears had a third-place showdown over the weekend in the Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

The visiting Wildcats split the weekend set in Prince Albert to remain third in the eight-team league with an 8-6-0-0 record.

The Wildcats' losing streak reached four games Saturday in a 3-2 setback to the host Bears. The Wildcats trailed early but fought back with first-period goals from Kaci Jones and Brooklyn Haubrich. Merissa Zerr and Taylor Kirwan picked up assists for the Wildcats.

Prince Albert tied the game with a second-period goal from Madison Casavant and Jessica Lutz scored the game winner in the third period.

Tthe loss in goal after allowing three goals on 23 shots over 43:17 of work. Jasey Book came in and stopped all six shots she faced. Jessica Vance earned the win for Prince Albert with 18 saves on 20 shots.

Haubrich scored on the powerplay as the Wildcats finished one-for-two on the man-advantage and held the Bears without a goal on four powerplay opportunit­ies.

Sunday, the Wildcats bounced back with a 5-2 win on two-goal outings from Taylor Kirwan and Haubrich.

The Wildcats trailed 1-0 after one period on a powerplay goal from Marlee Clarkson.

They responded in the second period with two powerplay goals from Kirwan and an even strength goal from Haubrich to lead 3-1 after two periods.

The Bears replied with 7:09 left in regulation with a powerplay goal from Kaytlyn Chickowski to make it a 3-2 Swift Current lead, but Hannah Riemer scored with only 2:17 left and then Haubrich scored into an empty net to close the scoring.

Haubrich was in on all five goals with three assists, while Mikayla Swallow an Karlie Bell added assists as well.

Each team scored twice on the powerplay, Swift Current on 10 man-advantages and Prince Albert on eight opportunit­ies.

Book picked up the win with 32 saves on 34 shots to improve to 7-3 with a 1.63 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. Vance took the loss with 27 saves on 31 shots.

The Wildcats will be looking to exact some revenge this weekend when they host the Regina Rebels (3-4-1-2). The Rebels shut the Wildcats out 3-0 earlier this month to send the team into a four-game losing streak.

The two teams will meet Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at Fairview West Arena.
