Bauer named Denny’s WHL Player of the Week

The Western Hockey League announced Monday that Edmonton Oil Kings’ forward Lane Bauer is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 24, 2014.

Bauer tallied four goals and eight points along with a +7 rating in four road games over the past week as the Oil Kings posted a 11-2-0 record in that span.

On Tuesday, November 18, Bauer scored twice while claiming 2nd Star honors in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Regina Pats.

On Wednesday, November 19th, he recorded an assist in a 3-2 overtime victory in Moose Jaw over the Warriors.

On Friday, November 21, Bauer picked up two assists in a 7-4 setback to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Bauer finished the week by scoring two goals and an assist while earning 2nd Star honors in a 5-4 overtime defeat to the Wheat Kings in Brandon.

Bauer, an 18-year-old from Anchorage, AK, is in his second season in the WHL with the Oil Kings. The 5’11", 186-lb forward has tallied eight goals and 18 points along with a +19 rating in 25 games this season. A MasterCard Memori- al Cup champion with the Oil Kings in 2013-14, Bauer has amassed 15 goals and 34 points in 72 career regular season contests. Bauer is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Jayden Sittler of the Victoria Royals for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. An 18year-old from Red Deer, AB, Sittler posted a 0.71 goals-against average and a .974 save percentage with a shutout in three starts over the past week.

On Wednesday, November 19, Sittler turned aside 17 of 18 shots he faced over 48 minutes of action after replacing starter Coleman Vollrath in a 5-3 loss to the visiting Kelowna Rockets.

On Friday, November 21, Sittler stopped 24 of 25 shots while earning 2nd Star honors in a 3-1 triumph over the U.S. Division leading Everett Silvertips.

On Saturday, November 22, he made 33 saves to post his first career WHL shutout while also being named the game’s 1st Star in a 5-0 victory over the visiting Regina Pats.

Sittler is in his first full season in the WHL. Listed by the Kootenay Ice, Sittler was acquired by the Royals in October 2014. He is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.
