Short­handed Le­gion­naires fall to Ar­gos

The Swift Cur­rent Home Hard­ware Le­gion­naires lost 5-3 to the last place Notre Dame Ar­gos Tues­day.

The short­handed Le­gion­naires had to call up three play­ers to round out their line-up and trailed by 2-0 and 5-1 mar­gins de­spite out­shoot­ing the vis­it­ing Ar­gos 40-26.

Daw­son Weather­ill made 37 saves for the Hounds and Thomas Casey and Kir­ill Klassen each had a goal and an as­sist. Jared Power, Lo­gan Foster, and Cameron Flin­ton also scored for the Hounds in the win.

Matthew Kess­ler­ing scored for the Le­gion­naires late in the first pe­riod to cut the deficit to 2-1 after 20 min­utes.

Notre Dame scored the next three goals be­fore Caleb Grif­fin scored on the pow­er­play mid­way through the third pe­riod. Kevin Ben­dall added a pow­er­play goal with 6:27 re­main­ing in reg­u­la­tion but that was as close as the Le­gion­naires would get. Tyde Hutchin­son fin­ished with two as­sists, while Brody Doep­ker, and Evan Arm­strong would fin­ish with sin­gles.

Caleb Lum­bard took the loss with 21 saves on 26 shots. The Le­gion­naires dropped to 6-18-0-2, while the Ar­gos im­proved to 6-180-2 in the Saskatchew­an Mid­get AAA Hockey League.

The Le­gion­naires re­turn to ac­tion on Jan­uary 10-11 when they visit the Bat­tle­fords Stars.
