Shorthanded Legionnaires fall to Argos
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires lost 5-3 to the last place Notre Dame Argos Tuesday.
The shorthanded Legionnaires had to call up three players to round out their line-up and trailed by 2-0 and 5-1 margins despite outshooting the visiting Argos 40-26.
Dawson Weatherill made 37 saves for the Hounds and Thomas Casey and Kirill Klassen each had a goal and an assist. Jared Power, Logan Foster, and Cameron Flinton also scored for the Hounds in the win.
Matthew Kesslering scored for the Legionnaires late in the first period to cut the deficit to 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Notre Dame scored the next three goals before Caleb Griffin scored on the powerplay midway through the third period. Kevin Bendall added a powerplay goal with 6:27 remaining in regulation but that was as close as the Legionnaires would get. Tyde Hutchinson finished with two assists, while Brody Doepker, and Evan Armstrong would finish with singles.
Caleb Lumbard took the loss with 21 saves on 26 shots. The Legionnaires dropped to 6-18-0-2, while the Argos improved to 6-180-2 in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
The Legionnaires return to action on January 10-11 when they visit the Battlefords Stars.
