The Swift Current 14U Male Junior SunDogs volleyball team completed an undefeated season by winning the Conexus Provincial Volleyball Championships in Saskatoon.
The 14U SunDogs defeated the Regina Volleyball Club Gold 25-16 and 25-22 to win the first provincial championship in club history.
RM of Swift Current and City of Swift Current Fire Departments were kept busy on Thursday battling a large grass fire which came perilously close to residential and institutional buildings in the area. The fire was fully engaged at 5 p.m. and swept down the valley north of Swift Current towards Memorial Drive. Buildings in the area include two news schools under construction, the Cypress Regional Hospital, plus a residential area north of Highway #4. Crews successfully halted the progress of the blaze without any property damage.

The Broncos added to that depth in the first round of the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft Thursday when they selected Notre Dame Hounds blueliner Dominic Schmiemann with the 12th overall pick. The 6’2’’, 170pound blueliner hails from James River Bridge, Alta., but played with the Hounds this past season in the South Saskatchewan Midget AA Hockey League.

Lorna Crozier had a day of memories and emotions on May 1 when she was inducted to the Swift Current Comprehensive High School's Wall of Honour.
As one of Canada's most renown poets, Crozier has earned multiple awards and accolates over a prolific writing career which has resulted in the publishing of 17 books including 1992's Inventing the Hawk which won a Governor General's Award for poetry. In 2011 she was selected to receive the Order of Canada. Swift Current hosts first meet on new all weather track
The Swift Current Comp. High School hosted its first ever meet on the new all-weather track last week when they held the SCCHS Twilight Invitational on May 14. The meet included the host team, two Moose Jaw high schools, eight athletes from OM Irwin Middle School in Swift Current, and 12 other high schools from across the Southwest totaling 310 athletes.
