It was a big day for local industry as Batco Manufacturing, REM and Ag Growth International ( AGI) officially opened their new Swift Current based manufacturing facility on June 17.
Guests and workers enjoyed a tour of the 114,000 square foot facility on Industrial Road after a speech by AGI CEO and President Gary Anderson.
“It’s been a big challenge, but a great outcome for everybody,” Anderson said during his opening remarks. “I’m very proud of everybody. This is a day to celebrate.”
Anderson’s company is investing $ 20 million in the new plant. After acquiring REM their old facility in the west end of Swift Current was deemed too small, necessitating the move. “While Swift Current has grown in size and spirit, what hasn’t changed is the safe and caring community that offers an exceptional quality of life, built upon our greatest strength: our people,” the mayor said in his opening remarks.

It was a banner two days for the Swift Current Broncos when three defensemen were selected during the first three rounds of the 2014 NHL Draft Friday in Philadelphia, PA on Friday and Saturday.
Import defenseman Julius Honka was selected 14th overall by the Dallas Stars on the first day of the draft.
Defenseman Brett Lernout was selected early Saturday by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round, 73rd overall.
Defenseman Brycen Martin followed on the very next pick when the Buffalo Sabres selected him 74th. mer Swift Current resident Bernie Brown is featured on a pair of recently released collectable coins from the Royal Canadian Mint.
Brown, who moved from Swift Current to Okotoks in 1993, has two of his drawings featured on $10 and $25 silver coins in the Mint’s “O Canada” collection. United U18 boys end long soccer run with provincial title
The Swift Current United U18 boys had a bittersweet championship at the Saskatchewan 2014 Sport 4 Life 11v11 Youth Provincials in Moose Jaw on June 30.
The team earned a 2-0 win over the UCT Mustangs in the gold medal game to allow the team to raise the provincial championship trophy, but the victory marks the end of an over decade long run for the core of the team. Chisholm achieves dream of swimming English Channel
Swift Current’s Meghan Chisholm completed her English Channel swim on July 22, reaching the shores of France between the tiny oceanside villages of Ambleteuse and Audresselles just after 1:30 p.m. to mark the completion of an over 14 hour swim.
Chisholm began her solo swim at approximately 6:15 a.m. and completed her marathon effort by approximately 8:40 p.m. to become the first Saskatchewan resident to complete an English Channel swim.
