Wong Guy Shoe Shop re-opening like stepping into a time capsule
A now vintage wall calendar has been frozen on the date July 26 for over three decades behind locked doors, but on Saturday, after being shuttered for over three decades, the Wong Guy Shoe Shop in Gull Lake was re-opened to the general public.
The Town of Gull Lake has acquired the near 100 year old building and has begun the process of turning it into their second heritage property. On Saturday, a line-up of people turned out to walk through the store and view the building which is essentially a time capsule of the way it was left in 1979. The Province of Saskatchewan is spending $ 12 million to construct a new Integrated Health Care facility in Leader.
With health service in Leader currently provided out of four locations, the province plans to renovate and expand the existing Western Senior Citizens Home longterm care facility, adding the capability to provide acute care, community health services, primary health care plus ambulance services. For the second time the Cypress Health Region has announced a delay in the opening of the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility in Maple Creek, with the facility now delayed into 2015.
There is now a two-stage construction completion for the Integrated Facility. The portion of the building housing the universal care unit, one acute care wing, diagnostics, plant operations, and health records areas will be completed on Jan. 5, 2015. However, the final section of the facility including the remainder of acute care, all long term care areas, nutrition, and administration areas will not be completed until March 2, 2015. Quick-moving fire destroys barn at Swift Current Hutterite Colony
A rapidly moving fire completely destroyed a chicken barn at the Swift Current Hutterite Colony on October 21.
RCMP report the fire began at approximately 9 p.m. last Tuesday and burnt rapidly, killing approximately 1,200 chicks. Lyric Theatre reaches restoration milestone
The inaugural milestone in restoring the Lyric Theatre to its former grandeur was celebrated during a reception on Oct. 30 where community supporters helped officially celebrate the conclusion of phase one of extensive building renovations.
