Swift Current’s Centennial keeps giving the city reasons to celebrate.

The Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association was presented with the Achievement of the Year Award from the Saskatchewan Association of Agricultural Societies and Exhibitions (SAASE) conference this past weekend in Moose Jaw. The award was presented in recognition of the Swift Current Ag and Ex efforts in hosting the “Saddle Up for the Ride of the Century” themed Frontier Days celebration held in conjunction with Swift Current's 100th anniversary in 2014.

“The Achievement of the Year Award goes to a group, or sometimes a person, that does out- standing work on community projects, and the SAASE Convention felt that we did an outstanding job on our partnership with the Centennial,” explained Ag & Ex General Manager Tracey Stevenson.

Swift Current's homecoming was scheduled in conjunction with Frontier Days, with Kinetic Park a hub of concerts and activities which contributed to the success of the celebration.

“Well the award was a surprise, but I think with the amount of volunteers, and the community spirit, and drawing together with all the events that were going on, not just Frontier Days or our Ag & Ex events but with all the Centennial events, coming together with the community was just a real bonus, a lot of fun, and I’m just glad it all worked out and everybody had a good time. It is good for the city too,” noted Ag & Ex Event Coordinator, Lenora Bells.

Finance Chair for the Ag & Ex, Stan Aikens, says the group will be investing capital once again to build on last year’s events to attract regional attention.

“We have put some extra dollars into again bringing in some topnotch entertainment, and we continue to put some money into bringing different events here to showcase the Southwest and the various things we have in this area, and try to get different groups to help out and assist – it’s been very positive that way.”

The lineup for the 2015 edition of Frontier Days will be announced on March 19th.
