Chinook School Division Sports Report

The SWAC junior curling championsh­ips were held in Leader and Hazlet on Feb. 27/28. Thanks to our hosts in Leader and Hazlet curling rinks and commission­ers Cindy Glenn-Schultz, Eric Crosbie and Kristy Sletten for all their hard work. Six boys, six girls and seven open teams played in a double knock out format over the two days. The final results were:

BOYS - A side winners Ponteix defeated B side winners Hodgeville in one game. The Ponteix team consisted of skip Tanner Kendall, 3rd Keegan Goffinet, 2nd Dustin Kendall, lead Parker Larochelle, coach Lori Kendall.

GIRLS - A side winners Maple Creek defeated B side winners Hodgeville in two games. The Maple Creek team consisted of skip Morgan Robinson, 3rd Sydney Windjack, 2nd Hallie Anderson, lead Madison Glascock, coach Holly Jamieson.

OPEN - A side winners Ponteix defeated B side winners Val Marie in one game. The Ponteix team consisted of skip Stetson Franklin, 3rd Robert Lacher, 2nd Katelyn Tourigny, lead Jessica Gorrill, coach Trish Carlton.

Six of our senior teams were taking part in SHSAA regional curling in Regina on Feb. 27/28. Eight teams per category competed in a double knock out bonspiel. Congratula­tions to the Maple Creek girls (skip Brooke Martin, 3rd Anu Maalerud, 2nd Hannah Forbes, lead Josey Robinson, spare Makayla Scheller, coach Marla Martin) who captured the Regional championsh­ip. The girls had three straight wins over Regina Winston Knoll, Gravelbour­g and Regina Campbell. They will now advance to provincial­s in Prince Albert on March 6/7.

Also advancing to provincial­s will be Swift Current Comp. boys as they captured the B side. The team consisted of skip Brendan Ross, 3rd Daiten Greenway, 2nd Hayden Hodges, lead Jordan Funk, spare Tyson Congdon and coach James Kissick. The boys started with two wins over Regina Campbell and Assiniboia. This put them in the A final where they lost to Regina LeBoldus. They then dropped to the B final where they defeated Assiniboia. Other team results from regional curling:

Gull Lake boys - lost to Regina LeBoldus, beat Kindersley, lost to Assiniboia.

Hodgeville girls - lost to Regina Campbell, beat Dinsmore, lost to Gravelbour­g.

Fox Valley mixed - lost to Regina Balfour and Regina O'Neill.

Cabri mixed - lost to Regina Thom, beat LCBI, beat Balfour, beat Lafleche and lost to Regina Thom in the B final.

Congrats to all teams on a fine performanc­e and good luck to our provincial representa­tives.

Our senior girls basketball league finished up their regular season games. On Feb. 24, the hometown Silhouette­s hosted the Frontier Raiders and came away with an 87-40 win to finish undefeated in league action. The Silhouette­s were led by Hannah MacNeil with 31 points and Cassie Nicolson with 24. Avery Evenson netted 17 points for Frontier.

The final league game saw the Gull Lake girls travel to Frontier on Feb. 26. The Lady Lions captured the victory by a score of 48-36. Gull Lake top scorer was Mikayla Hassard with 14 points and Frontier top scorer was Avery Evenson with 19.

The senior basketball semi finals are now set: GIRLS: #4 Swift Current Jr Ardens #1 Shaunavon - Monday, March 2 at 5:15 p.m.

#3 Maple Creek #2 Gull Lake - Tuesday, March 3 at 5 p.m. BOYS: #4 Swift Current Jr Colts #1 Herbert - Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m.

#3 Maple Creek #2 Shaunavon - Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m.

Our senior basketball teams will be starting SHSAA playoffs on the road to HOOPLA. The first level of playoffs is called conference play and will take place March 13/14. The South West hosts in three locations - 1A girls in Frontier, 3A girls in Maple Creek and 5A girls in Swift Current. The rest of our teams will be on the road.

The junior basketball teams have already played their semi finals on February 26. The results were: GIRLS: #4 Swift Current gr 9's 27 #1 Shaunavon 38

#3 Maple Creek 34 #2 Waldeck 58.

Waldeck will now travel to Shaunavon on March 5 (4:30 p.m.) for the final. BOYS: #4 Maple Creek 25 #1 Swift Current gr 9's 96

#3 Waldeck 48 #2 Shaunavon 66.

Shaunavon will now travel to Swift Current on March 5 (5:30 p.m.) for the final.
