Close cham­pi­onship games in adult soc­cer leagues

The Swift Cur­rent Adult In­door Soc­cer League wrapped up an­other sea­son with two thrilling cham­pi­onship games.

The PSC men re­turned to the top of the league with their third ti­tle in four sea­sons when they de­feated Selecta 3-1 in the cham­pi­onship match, capped by a div­ing header from John Thom­lis­ton for the gamewin­ning goal.

PSC had won the regular sea­son ti­tle with a 15-1-0 record and then de­feated the Mil­lar Edge 8-1 in the semi-fi­nal. Selecta had placed third in the regular sea­son with an 8-5-3 record be­fore elim­i­nat­ing the sec- ond-place Tim­bits in a shootout in the semi-fi­nal.

Thom­lis­ton over­came a slow start to win his fourth con­sec­u­tive Golden Boot with 24 goals this sea­son. Team­mate Con­nor Lan­gridge fin­ished sec­ond in league scor­ing with 18 goals, while Ri­cardo Bravo rounded out the PSC trio atop the scor­ing lead­ers with 17 goals.

The Spit­ting Lla­mas also lived up to their top seed in the play­offs as they de­feated the Soup-A-Stars 2-1 to claim the first ever women's league ti­tle. Brit­tney La­mon­tagne scored the gamewin­ning goal for the Spit­ting Lla­mas, who were com­prised pri­mar­ily of U18 United play­ers. They had topped the regular sea­son stand­ings with a 13-2-1 record and then de­feated the Goal Dig­gers 8-0 in the semi-fi­nals.

The Soup-A-Stars, the U16 United team, placed sec­ond in the regular sea­son and then de­feated the Mil­lar Edge 3-2 on Brooke Vallee's over­time goal in the semi-fi­nal.

The Spit­ting Lla­mas' San­tana Gowan made a late charge to win the Golden Boot with 11 goals this sea­son, pass­ing Vallee, who fin­ished with 10 goals. Mil­lar's Rachel Friesen fin­ished third with eight goals.
