The Southwest has two teams who will advance to HOOPLA (the SHSAA provincial basketball championsh­ips) in Saskatoon. The Swift Current Ardens will be going in the 5A girls' category and the Herbert boys will advance in the 1A boys' category.

Thanks to both the Laurels and the Ardens for hosting regional tournament­s on March 20-21. HOOPLA will start on Thursday with the medal matches going on Saturday. Best of luck to both teams!

In 1A boys' regionals at Herbert, the Laurels started the weekend off with a win over Kerrobert 101-62. Frank Meyers led the way with 31 points. The second game saw Wolseley defeat Thunderchi­ld 77-70.

In the final, Herbert claimed the victory 78-50 over Wolseley and captured the regional championsh­ip. The Laurels will go into HOOPLA ranked as the number two seed in the province behind top ranked Coronach.

The Ardens hosted a seven-team regional with teams from Saskatoon and Prince Albert. The Ardens got off to a great start on Friday night by beating Saskatoon Centennial 5850. High scorer for the Ardens was Katie Darlington-Kuebler with 17 points.

The Ardens second game on Saturday after- noon in the semi saw them take on Saskatoon St. Joseph. The Ardens moved into the final with a 61-48 win over St. Joseph. Jade Addai led all Ardens' scorers with 23 points.

The final game of the tournament saw the Ardens take on the number one seed of the tournament - the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders. The Ardens came up short against the very strong team from Holy Cross dropping an 80-27 decision. Four teams advanced from the regional in Swift Current to HOOPLA. The seeds will be as follows:

#1 north seed - Saskatoon Holy Cross

#2 north seed - Swift Current Ardens

#3 north seed - Saskatoon Evan Hardy Souls

#4 north seed - Saskatoon St. Joseph's Guardians.

The Ardens will now take on the number three seed from the South regional - Notre Dame.

Other Southwest teams taking part in regionals included Herbert girls, Shaunavon boys and girls, Maple Creek girls and Swift Current Colts:

Herbert girls - at Kenas- ton. The Laurels won the first game 47-41 over Gladmar. In the final against Kenaston, they lost 64-35.

Shaunavon Shadows - at Birch Hills. The Shadows lost to Beauval in the first game 84-75 but won the consolatio­n side with a win over Indian Head 82-81.

Shaunavon Silhouette­s - at Regina Harvest City. The Silhouette­s beat Paradise Hills in game one by a score of 48-44. In the final against Harvest City, the Silhouette­s came up short 87-49.

Maple Creek girls - at Caronport. The Lady Rebels lost to Unity in game one by a score of 4932 and followed this up with a win on the consolatio­n side 34-19 over Dalmeny.

Swift Current Colts - at Saskatoon. The Colts had a tough weekend dropping the first game to Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney 86-55 then losing to Prince Albert St. Mary 108-94 on the consolatio­n side.
