CCA rodeo heads to Mankota

The Canadian Cowboys Associatio­n returns to the Southwest this weekend for the Mankota Rodeo.

The annual rodeo will feature performanc­es on Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m., as well as Slack on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Among the locals to watch this weekend will be Val Marie's Klinton Kornfeld, who has a date with Jail Break in Saddle Bronc during Saturday's performanc­e. Consul's Monty Koopman will represent the Southwest in Bareback as he takes on Under Cover on Saturday evening as well.

The Bull Riding field consists of 20 cowboys, including Shaunavon's Tanner Allemand, who will take on Showcase on Saturday evening.

Tie Down Roping will see 32 cowboys in action, including Val Marie's Wyatt Hayes and Mankota's Shawn Williamson during Slack on Saturday morning.

Cadillac's Kelton Lang will look for a win close to home when he takes part in Steer Wrestling during Slack.

The Ladies Barrel Racing field is loaded with 55 competitor­s. Bailey Briere will ride in her hometown on Friday. Among the locals to watch during Slack on Saturday will be Hazenmore's Barbara Switzer, Mankota's April Williamson, and Aneroid's Bailee Switzer.

A total of 41 Team Roping entries will converge in Mankota with 12 slated for action on Friday. Val Marie's Riley Hayes and Colt Kornfeld are both slated to rope on Friday. Slack will include appearance­s from Hazenmore's Ben and Chanse Switzer, Shawn Williamson, Wyatt Hayes, Ryan Hayes, Kelton Lang, and Tony Lang.

The Junior Steer Riding event will be highlighte­d by Chanse Switzer, Colt Kornfeld, and Kincaid's Jud Colliness. Switzer currently leads the CCA standings in the event, while Colliness is fourth.

Karlie Cowie and Kassidy Williamson will both ride in their hometown in Junior Girls Barrel Racing on Friday.

A total of 17 cowboys will take part in Novice Bull Riding in Mankota, highlighte­d by a performanc­e from Shaunavon's Mac Oberle on Saturday evening.
