Young athletes set the pace at Whitemud Sectional Track meet
With only a single senior age division record falling during the Whitemud Sectional Track and Field meet hosted in Frontier on May 19, it was the younger track athletes which shone during a series of record breaking events.
Nixen Voll from Shaunavon set a trio of records in the Midget Boys age division. He turned in a time of 12.59 seconds in the 100 metre final to break the former mark of 12.85 sec. from 2012. His time of 15.20 seconds in the 100 metre hurdles eclipsed the former time of 15.53 seconds from 2013. He also set a new standard of 11.26 metres in the triple jump to break the former standard by six centimetres.
Seven new midget age division records were set during the ideal weather conditions during last Tuesday's meet which featured athletes from Shaunavon, Frontier, Consul, Eastend, and Val Marie.
Frontier's Julia Dixon new record in the Midget Girls 100 metre sprint, winning in a time of 14.59 seconds to eclipse the mark of 14.68 seconds from 2012.
Tenelle Lind of Shaunavon set a new standard in the Midget Girls 1,500 metre race, finishing the race in 6:06.56 minutes to easily beat the former mark of 6:13.60 set in 1985.
There was also a new best performance in the Midget Girls Triple Jump. Kortlyn Fuller from Shaunavon set a new mark of 9.74 metres to beat the former mark from 1981 by a full 10 centimetres.
Zane Tully set an impressive new standard in the Bantam Boys 3000 metre. His time of 11:37.95 minutes took over 30 seconds off the previous mark of 12:12.60 minutes set back in 2002.
The Tremere from Shaunavon recorded a 15.20 second finish in the Bantam Boys 100 metre hurdles to erase the former mark of 15.53 set in 2013.
Joy Barsness from Frontier is the new holder of the Junior Girls 100 metre sprint in a time of 15.13 seconds, breaking the old mark of 16.30 second from 2012.
Shaunavon's Jordan Voll equalled the best time in the Junior Boys 100 metre sprint, turning in a time of 11.80 seconds to equal the mark which dates back to 1991.
Eastend's Abby Bristow set a new record time in the Senior Girls 3000 metre run, turning in a time of 13:39.18 minutes to edge the former mark of 15:47.00 which was set back in 1981.
