The Swift Current Comp. Colts senior boys basketball team will host the Doug Armstrong Memorial Invitation­al Tournament this weekend. The Colts will open the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. against the Yorkton Raiders.

The Colts will also play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Also in attendance are the Herbert Laurels, Weyburn Eagles, Moose Jaw AE Peacock Toilers, and the Estevan Elecs.

Elite performers

The Swift Current Comp. Colts and Ardens wrestling team attended a tournament at Moose Jaw AE Peacock High School on Saturday and had some strong performanc­es in the Elite Division.

Grade 10 Arden Aleah Nickel led the way with a gold medal showing in the Elite Female 60kg division.

Remington Tschetter (59kg), Anders Mitchell (90kg), Emmett Guider (73kg), and Sebastien Marchand (73kg) all placed second in their Elite Male divisions.

Kayden Dudley (59kg) and Michael Sisa (62kg) both placed third in their Elite Male divisions. Reese Klein added a firstplace finish in the Novice Male 65kg category.

The team is now idle until SHSAA Regionals, which will be back in Moose Jaw on March 11. SHSAA Wrestling Provincial­s

16U Sundogs debut at Saskcup

The Swift Current 16U Female Junior Sundogs volleyball team made their season debut with an eighth-place finish at Sask Cup #1 in Saskatoon on Feb. 4-5.

The 16U Sundogs, coached by Tiffany Powell and Berkley Peterson, won their first three matches on Saturday to place first in their initial pool. They defeated Anaheim’s ECVC Fusion (25-12, 25-8), the Melfort Storm (25-14, 25-10), and Outlook’s OHC Thunder (25-20, 25-16). The Sundogs concluded their day with a crossover match win over the Lanigan Lazers (25-12, 25-13) to move into Tier I.

The 16U Sundogs opened the playoffs Sunday with a loss to Prince Albert’s Toppers En Fuego (18-25, 18-25) and then lost in three sets to the Macklin Rage (25-17, 20-25, 14-16).

They also lost in three sets in their tournament finale in three sets to the Regina Cougars (21-25, 25-19, 9-15).

Ardens win B championsh­ip

The Swift Current Comp. Ardens senior girls basketball team placed fourth out of 12 teams at a tournament in North Battleford. They lost to the host team before defeating Meadow Lake, Moose Jaw AE Peacock, and Yorkton Regional. Madison Mortensen was named the defensive player of the weekend and Katie Braun was the team MVP. They will host their Pink Game against North Battleford on March 9.
