Innovation Credit Union signs new decade long iplex naming agreement

-

The home of the Swift Current Broncos will be known as the Innovation Credit Union iplex for the upcoming 10 years.

A new agreement for the naming right of the arena was approved at the February 27 Swift Current City Council meeting. The naming rights agreement, which was signed at a cost of $675,000, slightly modifies the name from the Credit Union iplex to the Innovation Credit Union iplex.

“To us it was exciting,” Innovation Credit Union Chief Executive Officer Daniel Johnson said of the opportunity to renegotiate a new naming contract. “When we first started talking about can we continue to be that corporate champion of the iplex, they were more than willing.

“So we did some fine-tuning to the contract. There was a bit of a price increase, but again very manageable. To us it’s again another demonstration of how we can both win. So we get to support things that are happening in the City, but we also get a fairly high recognition for that.”

Johnson said the agreement is a positive one for them, as Swift Current hosts numerous events which allows them to be mentioned across region, province and country.

“For us it’s a very effective way to keep that awareness that we’re a strong community citizen.”

He also said Credit Union staff and members are proud to be directly tied to that wide ranging support.

“There’s national and international events that happen there. Personally I just feel proud going into that facility and knowing that we’re a part of something really good, and I am hoping that our staff and our members feel the same way, because I just think it has a really good look and feel.”

“We’re very thankful to Innovation Credit Union for their continued support of this great facility,” commented Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault.

A special recognition event was held prior to the March 8 Bronco game to recognize their new partnership.

Funds from the naming rights will be fund capital projects that will allow the city to continue meeting arena requirements for the WHL and other facility users.
