Bantam Broncos advance in double OT

Hayden Wilm knocked home the only goal of the game midway through the second overtime period to lift the Swift Current Kabos Broncos to a 1-0 win over the visiting Regina Monarchs in the third and deciding game of the second round of the Saskatchew­an Bantam AA Hockey League playoffs.

Both goaltender­s were outstandin­g, but Jacob Herman got the shutout in goal with 32 saves for the Broncos. Jared Thompson stopped the first 41 shots he faced for the Monarchs.

Noah Wills and Ryan Mccleary added assists on the series-clinching goal.

The Broncos will now face the fourth-seeded Prairie Storm, who upset the top-seeded Yorkton Terriers, in the South Division championsh­ip series.

The teams had traded 6-3 home-ice victories to open the series. Wednesday, the Broncos got goals from five different skaters in a 6-3 win over the visiting Monarchs to open the series. The Broncos scored three goals in the first period and never looked back.

Reed Jacobson had a goal and three assists, Keagon Little added a goal and two assists, and Riley Dekowny scored twice, including a shorthande­d marker to help seal the win. Rhett Evjen notched a goal and an assist, while Hendrik de Klerk registered two assists. Mccleary also scored and Mac Gross chipped in a single assist. Herman outplayed his counterpar­t with 26 saves in goal for the win.

The Broncos finished two-forthree on the man-advantage and killed off the only two shorthande­d situations they faced.

The Monarchs won game two 6-3 in Regina Friday when they got goals from five different skaters.

Little had a goal and an assist for the Raiders, while Levi Lamotte and Jacobson also scored. Rhys O’neill, Evjen, Dekowny, and de Klerk all added assists.
