RCMP de­stroy item re­sem­bling a pipe bomb in Swift Cur­rent

The Swift Cur­rent Mu­nic­i­pal RCMP uti­lized the ser­vices of the Saskatchew­an RCMP Ex­plo­sive Dis­posal Unit to de­stroy three sus­pi­cious items dur­ing the early morn­ing hours of June 14.

RCMP re­port they re­ceived a com­plaint of an item re­sem­bling a pipe bomb at ap­prox­i­mately 1 a.m. last Thurs­day morn­ing. RCMP lo­cated three sus­pi­cious items in the mid­dle of a park­ing lot sit­u­ated in the 400 block of Her­bert St. E. near the Swift Cur­rent Li­brary.

The Saskatchew­an RCMP Ex­plo­sive Dis­posal Unit de­stroyed the items at the scene as a pre­cau­tion. Saskatchew­an RCMP Po­lice Dog Ser­vices were also on hand to search the area, but no ad­di­tional sus­pi­cious items were lo­cated.

Swift Cur­rent Mu­nic­i­pal RCMP De­tach­ment com­man­der Staff Sergeant Gary Hodges up­dated Swift Cur­rent City Coun­cil about the in­ci­dent dur­ing their June 18 meet­ing.

He con­firmed the ma­te­rial has been sent off to Ottawa for test­ing and fin­ger print analysis.

RCMP are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion in the mat­ter. They are ask­ing for the pub­lic’s as­sis­tance dur­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion. Specif­i­cally, they are seek­ing any­one who may have wit­nessed any sus­pi­cious ve­hi­cles or ac­tiv­ity in the 400 block of Her­bert St. E.
