United teams bring home medals

The Swift Cur­rent U17 United Girls re­bounded from a tour­na­ment open­ing loss to win gold at the Eastside Bridge City Sum­mer Clas­sic in Saska­toon over the week­end.

They dropped their opener 2-1 to Flin Flon’s Phan­tom Lake Soccer Club on Fri­day evening. Mckenna Richel­hoff scored the only goal in the loss.

The United girls re­bounded on Sat­ur­day morn­ing with a 6-0 win over Bat­tle­fords United FC. Kaylea Resch, Al­li­son Wall, Alissa Gagnon, Ree­gin Pow­ell, Ilyssa Dyck, and Richel­hoff scored, while Ju­liana Whalen picked up the shutout.

They fol­lowed up on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon with a 6-0 win over Saska­toon’s Eastside Va­len­cia. Pow­ell led the way with a hat trick, while Richel­hoff, Gagnon, and Wall also scored.

The U17 United Girls got a re­match with Phan­tom Lake in the gold medal match on Sun­day. Resch and Gil­lian Studer scored in a 2-0 vic­tory to se­cure gold as Whalen earned her third straight shutout.

The Di­vi­sion 2 U13 United Boys won sil­ver. They fin­ished the round robin with a 3-0 record af­ter de­feat­ing the Lake­wood Mutiny 2-0, Hol­lan­dia 5-1, and VUSC 8-1. They fell 3-1 to Prince Al­bert Celtic in the gold medal match.

The U13 United Girls placed se­cond out of four teams. They dropped their opener 4-0 to Prince Al­bert Celtic and then lost 1-0 to the Lake­wood Fu­sion. The U13 Girls con­cluded the round robin with a 4-0 win over Eastside Real. They re­matched with Prince Al­bert in the fi­nal but lost 7-0.

The U11 United Girls also made it to the fi­nal. They opened the tour­na­ment with a 2-1 win over Eastside Monaco. They added a 2-1 win over the Aurora Di­a­monds and then lost 3-1 to the Eastide Lyon. The U11 Girls con­cluded the round robin with a 4-0 win over the Lake­wood Dash.

Swift Cur­rent met the Eastside Lyon again in the fi­nal and lost 1-0 to place se­cond.

The U11 Boys United Roma fin­ished with a 2-1 record. They won their opener 6-3 over the Lake­wood Ju­niors on Fri­day. They fol­lowed up with a 7-2 win over Eastside Wolfs­burg be­fore fall­ing 4-0 to As­tra.

The U11 Boys United Strik­ers fin­ished with a 1-2 record. They lost the opener 4-2 to Hol­lan­dia Fer­nan­des. They re­bounded with a 3-2 win over Eastside Dort­mund be­fore los­ing 3-0 to the Big River Snipers.

The 15U Boys made a semi-fi­nal ap­pear­ance in Saska­toon. They dropped their opener 5-0 to the SUSC Reds, de­feated Hol­lan­dia 2-1, and then de­feated the Eastside Arse­nal 6-1 to place se­cond in the round robin. They were elim­i­nated in an 8-0 loss to Bran­don’s West­man in the semi-fi­nal on Sun­day.

The United U13 Boys also fin­ished with a 1-2 record in Di­vi­sion 3. They lost 4-1 to Bat­tle­fords United FC and 3-1 to Melfort In­ter­na­tional, be­fore de­feat­ing Pound­maker FC 6-1.

The United U17 Boys fin­ished with one loss and two draws in Saska­toon. They tied Bat­tle­fords United FC 2-2, tied Regina’s FCR 1-1, and lost 3-2 to Prince Al­bert Celtic.

Swift Cur­rent United Soccer Club teams will be back in ac­tion on June 29 – July 1 at Provin­cials in Saska­toon and North Bat­tle­ford.
