SCCHS grad class of 2018 says farewell to high school

-

The Swift Current Comprehensive High School class of 2018 gathered for a final time as Grade 12 students to celebrate their graduation on June 27.

Last Wednesday’s graduation ceremony boasted the theme “Let the Journey Begin”, with the cap and gown ceremony serving as their formal farewell to High School.

Senior Pin Rebecca Treen and Senior Stick Emmett Guider delivered the farewell address to the graduates, reminding them of the long journey they have been on together starting with the first day of Kindergarten through to their final day as students.

“Let’s enjoy, embrace and celebrate all of the yesterday’s experiences that have brought us here today, because before we know it, today will become yesterday,” Treen said.

“And tomorrow we begin to explore our dreams. As we move forward in our lives we will follow the paths that have been afforded to us.” Guider added.

They reflected that the lessons they learned through school has prepared them for tackling their future.

“Life won’t be handed over on a silver plater. We’ll know what it’s like to work hard for something, how rewarding it feels to achieve our goals,” Guider said.

“We all have the skills and ambitions to do incredible things, and we’ll never really be alone,” Treen said.

“The opportunities are endless. We’re so excited to see what the future holds for everyone.” Guider said, with Treen adding “These may be considered to be the best days of our lives, but the best is yet to come.”

Their address also extended a special thank you to their parents and teachers.

“You have all made our High School experience a great one, full of great memories. The countless hours you have spent pushing us to our potential have not gone unnoticed. None of us would be here today without you, and we thank you for that,” Treen said as a thank you to their teachers.

“We will grow to appreciate your assistance as we move on in our lives, and realize truly how much you’ve done for us. We won’t always have you by our sides to look out for us. We won’t always be able to depend on you for the little things,” Guider said in appreciation of the parents.

Danielle Beaudoin Kwan was announced as the Governor General Award winner for SCCHS with a 95.5 per cent average in Grade 12. She has been accepted to the University of Calgary to pursue environmental studies.
