Energy Tour provides important insight into challenges Southwest companies face
Saskatchewan’s Minister of Energy and Resources Bronwyn Eyre was given a first-hand look at energy sector companies operating in the region during a tour through the Southwest last week.
Eyre was accompanied by Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele and Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley during a three-day listening tour on August 29 to 31. She had an opportunity to tour a series of oil and gas industry operations, along with visits to talk with municipal governments and RM councils.
“This tour was very important to see the industry at ground level,” Steele said of the three day tour opportunity.
Steele, who serves as the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Resources, said government needs to remove impediments to allow energy companies to take advantage of opportunities when economic conditions improve.
“That’s where we need to hear from industry so that we can make the decisions that are the right decisions that don’t put industry at a disadvantage of doing business in Saskatchewan,” he said.
Eyre, who took over the helm of the Energy and Resources back in February, said the listening tour provided her with some key insights into some of the issues facing companies in the Southwest.
“We know that there’s some work to be done, and I’ve heard some of that the last couple of days - so land reclamation, orphan wells, insurance, tax - so its been a listening tour.”
