Justin Trudeau fails Saskatchewan again with bad trade deal
Editor:
Justin Trudeau’s failures are going to cost Canadians.
Here’s the latest: he said he was “more than happy” to reopen NAFTA and negotiate with Donald Trump. But in the end, he came back with an agreement that is worse than what Canadians started with.
Trudeau’s bad trade deal has failed Saskatchewan, with no significant wins for Canada in return for the endless concessions he made. Trudeau backed down on pharmaceuticals, giving Donald Trump exactly what he wanted: higher prices and bigger profits for American drug companies. He backed down on dairy, again giving Donald Trump what he wanted: More market share for American exporters and less business for Canadians. Saskatchewan’s dairy farmers will pay the price for Trudeau’s concessions.
Trudeau even failed to bring an end to harmful tariffs which remain on steel, aluminum, and softwood lumber - with no timeline or plan for lifting them. Workers at Saskatchewan companies like Evraz are still suffering under these tariffs, and Trudeau’s bad deal does nothing to help them out.
Donald Trump is measuring this deal by what he gained – at Canada’s expense. Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau is measuring it by what he didn’t give up.
Andrew Scheer and the Conservative Party of Canada will stand up for our Canadian industries including dairy and steel; and we will hold Justin Trudeau to account for his concessions to Donald Trump and his failure to win anything new for Canadians.
