Concert double headliners announced for Frontier Days

-

Country music fans are in for one memorable concert evening at Frontier Days 2019.

A double bill featuring Colter Wall and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will be on stage on Friday, June 28 as the lone concert of Frontier Days which runs on June 26 to 29.

Swift Current’s own Colter Wall is attracting larger legions of fans following the release of his latest recording Songs of the Plains earlier this year.

Wall has toured relentlessly across North America for the past two years, and his 2019 is equally ambitious with a dozen US shows in January and February before embarking on a 17-date European tour which includes stops in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Wall played a sold out CD release concert at the Living Sky Casino on October 10 before kicking off a 31-date tour across the United States.

His critically acclaimed new album Songs of the Plains, was produced by Nashville based Dave Cobb, who is working with a stable of artists reviving traditional country music.

Songs of the Plains contains a series of prairie themed tracks of a bygone era, with a historical themed song Wild Bill Hickok along with Night Herding Song, reminiscent of a trail song sung by a working ranchman.

Wall’s latest project is a follow-up to his 2015 debut seven song EP Imaginary Appalachia, and his self-titled 2017 full length recording Colter Wall.

The iconic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are now in their 52nd year as a group, and they continue to pack concert venues thanks to a long list of career hits.

Founded back in 1966, the country rockers have stood the test of time and celebrated their 50th anniversary as a band in 2016. They had their first million selling album in 1973 with the groundbreaking triple album Will the Circle Be Unbroken, and one of their earliest mega hits was a cover of Jerry Jeff Walkers Mr. Bojangles. Their five decade plus musical career has also produced dance floor favourites Fishin’ In The Dark and Cadillac Ranch.
