Legionnair­es split with Contacts

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnair­es split a weekend home stand against the visiting Saskatoon Contacts.

Saturday, the Legionnair­es and Contacts were tied 2-2 after two periods before the Legionnair­es scored three goals in a 5-3 win.

Ethan Hein made 32 saves to help lead the Legionnair­es to the win. Mason Strutt led the attack with two goals and one assist, while Boston Bird added three assists. Reed Jacobson scored twice and defenseman Hendrik de Klerk added two assists.

Jaxon Martens also scored, while Chase Gallant, Lucas Ochitwa, Kersey Reich, and Kaedan Watkins all added assists.

Sunday, the Legionnair­es allowed four unanswered goals in a 5-2 loss to the Contacts.

Jacobson and Ochitwa scored 4:28 apart during two-point outings. Boston Bird assisted on both goals. Jacob Herman took the loss despite making 38 saves.

The Legionnair­es remain third in the Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League with a 17-6-1-0 record, while the Contacts improved to 13-10-0-0.

The Legionnair­es will continue their five-game home stand this weekend against the Moose Jaw Generals on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The Legionnair­es will host the Notre Dame Argos on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

They also host the Regina Pat Canadians on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
