Legionnaires defend home ice
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires continued a five-game Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League home stand with two home wins over the weekend to climb the league standings.
Saturday, the Legionnaires returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory over the Moose Jaw Generals. Ethan Hein earned the shutout with 26 saves against his former team.
Boston Bird and Reed Jacobson each posted a goal and an assist in the win. Lucas Ochitwa assisted on both goals.
Sunday, the Legionnaires edged the visiting Notre Dame Argos 3-2. They fired 44 shots on goal, but Ruben Cooper made 41 saves to keep the Argos within striking distance.
Mac Gross, Maguire Scheidt, and Strutt scored in the win. Hendrik de Klerk had two assists, while Chase Gallant, Ochitwa, Kersey Reich, and Jacobson all added assists.
Jacob Herman earned the win with 24 saves.
Avery Kirkup and Noah Altwasser replied for the Argos.
The Legionnaires moved back into third spot in the SMAAAHL with a 196-1-0 record.
The Legionnaires will now gear up for the Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament in Calgary over the holidays.
