Wildcats split with Bears

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats split two games with the visiting Prince Albert Bears with both Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League games going right down to the wire.

Saturday, the Wildcats made things interestin­g with a three-goal third period but the comeback bid fell just short in a 5-4 loss.

Sara Kendall, Kamryn Johnson, Ashlee Wolfe, and Carissa Hogan all scored in a losing cause. Taylor Lind picked up a pair of assists, while Maddy Mcclary, Madison Garrett, and Baylee Kirwan all added single helpers.

Amaya Giraudier took the loss after allowing four goals on 25 shots over 37:05. Harper Davey made two saves on three shots over 20:42.

Sunday, the Wildcats scored five goals on five third-period shots, including three goals in 1:01, to defeat the Bears 6-4. The first period was scoreless, each team found the back of the net in the second period, before the two teams combined for eight goals in the third period.

The Wildcats trailed 4-3 until Kendall scored with 1:37 left on the clock to tie the game. Kirwan scored 36 seconds later to give the Wildcats the lead. Kendall added an unassisted goal 25 seconds later to complete a hat trick.

Lind finished with a goal and two assists, Hogan added three assists, and Maddy Mccleary registered a goal and an assist. Wolfe also added an assist. Davey earned the win with 25 saves on 29 shots.

The Wildcats improved to 6-70-1 with the weekend split. The Wildcats will head to Saskatoon this weekend to visit the Saskatoon Stars in their final two games of

2018.
