Seventh annual Wellness Challenge begins January 21

-

If you made a New Year’s resolution to have a healthier 2019, the seventh annual Wellness Challenge might help keep you on track.

The City of Swift Current’s 2019 Wellness Challenge runs from January 21 to February 17, and the four week long challenge invites participants to pursue a healthier start to the year in a number of measurable areas. Daily wellness points are available in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, water and sleep, so the challenge is not strictly a fitness challenge. Changes were made to this year’s challenge based on the feedback from previous years.

People are invited to register teams of at least five members from their workplaces, organization, family or a group of friends. Each team member keeps track of their daily wellness points.

There are prizes available for the five individuals with the highest points. There is also a team prize available for the group posting the best score.

A series of weekly lunch and learn sessions will deliver some wellness education during the challenge, and individuals can attend in person or view on Youtube. There is also a weekly challenge to earn extra points.

“This is a great opportunity for a healthy start to the year,” explained Val Choofoo, In Motion Community Facilitator. “Over the past six years, just over 1,800 people have participated in the Wellness Challenge. Let’s help Swift Current be a place where a ‘healthy’ life makes sense!”

Teams wishing to participate are asked to email v.choofoo@swiftcurrent.ca with the name of the team, the number of participants and the name of the team captain responsible for reporting team point totals during the challenge.

The Swift Current Kiwanis Club has again sponsored this year’s challenge.
