Legionnaires battling for playoff positioning
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires had mixed results during two homes games last week.
Tuesday, the Legionnaires allowed the opening five goals in a 6-3 loss to the visiting Notre Dame Hounds.
Rhett Evjen led the Legionnaires with two goals, while Blake Rasmuson added a pair of assists. Chase Gallant also scored, while Maguire Scheidt and Kaedan Watkins added assists. Ethan Hein made 29 saves on 35 shots in the loss.
The Hounds got goals from Coalson Wolford, Jhett Larson, Cam Recchi, Trey Funk, Keaton Sorenson, and Drew Englot. Trey Deobald made 21 saves in the win.
Sunday, the Legionnaires rebounded with a 5-1 win over the visiting Prince Albert Mintos.
Logan Linklater led the way with two goals and one assist, while Christian Albertson scored twice and Mason Strutt also scored. Mac Gross and Riley Dekowny each picked up a pair of assists. Joe Arntsen, Hendrik de Klerk, and Kersey Reich all added assists.
Jacob Herman picked up the win with 19 saves.
Swift Current Broncos’ prospect Dawson Springer scored the only goal for the Mintos.
The Legionnaires moved two points ahead of the Mintos for fifth spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with a 23-13-1-1 record. They sat four points back of the Hounds with two games in hand.
The Legionnaires only have five games remaining in the regular season, beginning Thursday when they visit the Notre Dame Argos. The Legionnaires will also host a pair of games this week. They host the Yorkton Maulers on Sunday at 7:45 p.m. at Fairview West Arena and Monday at 3 p.m. at the Innovation Credit Union iplex.
