Deis reaches semi-fi­nal at Tankard

Two rinks fea­tur­ing South­west curlers were in ac­tion at the 2019 Sask­tel Tankard Men’s Pro­vin­cial in White­wood.

Team Deis, curl­ing out of the Fox Val­ley Curl­ing Club, made it all the way to the semi-fi­nal after putting to­gether five straight wins.

Team Deis was com­prised of skip Ryan Deis, third Scott Man­ners, sec­ond Ja­son Barn­hart, and lead Kalin Deis. They were coached by Kay Mont­gomery.

Deis lost his open­ing game to Saska­toon’s Ja­son Ja­cob­son on Wed­nes­day. Deis also lost 6-4 to Twin Rivers’ Lloyd Fell in his B Event opener on Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

The Fox Val­ley rink re­bounded in the C Event with a 7-2 win over Este­van’s Brent Gedak on Fri­day morn­ing.

Deis kept win­ning in the C Event on Fri­day evening against Ja­cob­son with a 5-4 vic­tory. The Fox Val­ley four­some added a 6-4 win over Ker­robert’s Joshua Heidt on Satur­day morn­ing and then clinched a spot in the play­offs with a 9-6 win over Saska­toon’s Dustin Kalthoff.

Deis opened the page play­off with an 8-6 win over Saska­toon’s Kody Har­tung, but then lost in the semi-fi­nal 7-6 to Saska­toon’s Kirk Muyres.

Cabri’s Shaun Meachem was a mem­ber of Team Kalthoff, which was coached by Swift Cur­rent’s Jeff Cham­bers and curled out of the Nu­tana Curl­ing Club in Saska­toon.

Kalthoff won his opener on Fri­day 10-3 over Kronau’s Brady Ken­del. He added a 4-3 win over Kody Har­tung on Thurs­day morn­ing, but was knocked out of the A Event with a 6-5 loss to Muyres.

Kalthoff faced Fell on Fri­day af­ter­noon to open the B Event and dou­bled up the Twin Rivers rink 8-4.

Kalthoff was knocked from the B Event on Fri­day evening in a 9-5 loss to Har­tung.

They re­bounded in the C Event for an 8-4 win over Ken­del, but were elim­i­nated in a 9-6 loss to Deis.
