Another tough week for young Broncos

The Swift Current Broncos had a rough week with three straight losses.

Wednesday, the Prince Albert Raiders improved to a league best 46 wins with a 3-1 win over the host Broncos.

Import forward Joona Kiviniemi picked up his team leading 14th goal of the season on a second period power play to account for the lone Bronco goal.

Bronco netminder Isaac Poulter turned aside 40 of 43 shots while his season record falls to 2-15-0-0.

Friday, Jake Elmer scored a hat trick in leading the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a lopsided 7-2 win over the host Broncos.

Swift Current replied with goals from Carter Chorney and Connor Horning.

Bronco overage goaltender Riley Lamb allowed seven goals on 56 shots while falling to 2-40-1.

Swift Current failed to score in eight power play chances, while Lethbridge counted a single power play goal in three opportunit­ies.

Monday, the Broncos lost 3-2 in overtime in a Family Day matinee against the host Brandon Wheat Kings. Cole Reinhardt scored in the final minute of overtime to hand the Broncos their eighth straight loss.

Ian Briscoe opened the scoring for the Broncos 9:55 into the first period with his third goal of the season. Jonny Hooker tied the game in the second period, but Owen Blocker restored the lead for the Broncos 1:25 later. Luka Burzan tied the game again 7:51 into the third period with a power play goal.

Poulter made 39 saves to fall to 2-15-1-0.

The Broncos have two home games this weekend, beginning Friday against the Moose Jaw Warriors. They also host the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday.

The Broncos will also be on the road next week to visit the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday and the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday.
