Western Canada Summer Games staff and volunteers will be marking Saturday, April 13th on their calendars in bold. This is the date that Technical Delegates who represent each sport competition will be in Swift Current to assess all Games venues, including the newly built venues that weren’t complete during their first visit in September 2017, and to ensure that all plans are set and requirements are met for the 10-day multi-sport competition that kicks off August 9th in Swift Current.

“It’s exciting to have the Technical Delegates back in Swift Current,” said Games Manager Denise Barbier. “Not only does this give us the chance to show the progress we’ve made over the past 18 months, but it also signifies just how close we’re getting to opening the Games.”

The Delegates who will be arriving in Swift Current this weekend represent a multitude of sport competitions, including athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, canoe/kayak, rowing, triathlon, volleyball, softball, tennis, golf, wrestling, soccer and cycling.

“Each Technical Delegate has vast knowledge of the sport they represent, and they will be here to ensure fair competition that meets all requirements laid out by both the Provincial and National Sports Organizations,” continued Barbier. “In short, this visit is vital so that we can receive final approval for competition.”

In addition to providing approvals for each competition, the Delegates are also integral in the planning process, lending their considerable experience to the local Games Committee and Staff.

“We’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to lean on the delegates’ knowledge and experience,” said Barbier. “Their visit will be instrumental to the success of the Games, and we are looking forward to seeing them this weekend.”
