Volunteers saluted for tireless efforts

A diverse list of Swift Current volunteers were saluted during a special volunteers luncheon at the Chinook Golf Course Restaurant last Wednesday.

The Celebrating Volunteers luncheon on April 10 provided a rare opportunity to thank the many volunteers who have such a major impact in the community. The event was hosted as part of National Volunteer Week which was celebrated on April 7 to 13.

“Volunteers are such an essential part of a community. And I think we are so privileged here in Swift Current to have such an amazing volunteer corps,” explained Nicole Spenst, Event and Program Manager for the City of Swift Current. “These volunteers are those that help to provide the quality of life that we have in our community, and it wouldn’t be possible without them.”

“From being the soccer coach, to being the individual who volunteers to serve at a cabaret, to all of the things that we love to do in our community from sports to culture to recreation. Even cleaning up along the Chinook Parkway to keep our community looking beautiful and green. A volunteer encompasses what a community is, and without the volunteers I think Swift Current would look so much different than what it does today.”

“We want to be able to say thank you to everyone who gives a little bit of time to make our community a better place.”

Spenst added that city pride is truly on display through the extensive volunteer efforts which occur throughout Swift Current.

“It is so exciting to see how the community comes together and rallies together and how people really want to show off the pride of their community. And by volunteering you are doing exactly that.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
