Excitement grow­ing for Western Canada Sum­mer Games

April 30 is cir­cled on the cal­en­dar as that is the day the countdown to the 2019 Western Canada Sum­mer Games will reach the 100 day mark.

The multi-sport games will con­verge on Swift Current on Au­gust 9 to 18, and the ex­ten­sive plan­ning to host the event will switch into a dif­fer­ent gear over the com­ing weeks.

On May 1 the ticket sales will launch for the 16 sports which will com­prise the 10-day long com­pe­ti­tion. Ad­mis­sion prices will be dis­counted by 10 per cent dur­ing the early days of ticket sales, and full in­for­ma­tion on ticket de­tails will soon be avail­able on the Games web­site 2019wcsg.ca.

Next Wed­nes­day will also be a big day for Games of­fi­cials, as they will be mak­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion at the Saskatchew­an Leg­is­la­ture to fur­ther build excitement for the up­com­ing com­pe­ti­tion.

Swift Current City Coun­cil­lor Pat Friesen also noted at this past Mon­day’s city coun­cil meet­ing that the Chef de Mis­sions for the par­tic­i­pat­ing prov­inces and ter­ri­to­ries will be meet­ing in Swift Current on May 7 to 9 in or­der to re­view all the fi­nal feed­back and pre-plans while mak­ing sure ev­ery­thing is ready for the ath­letes.

Ad­di­tion­ally, the in­di­vid­u­als se­lected to par­tic­i­pate in the Torch Re­lay will be con­tacted next month. The time-hon­oured tra­di­tion of a re­lay which will be hosted in Swift Current on Au­gust 3, Lac Pelletier Re­gional Park on Au­gust 4 and the Saskatchew­an Land­ing Pro­vin­cial Park on Au­gust 5.

“It’s get­ting very ex­cit­ing. I know a lot of peo­ple are start­ing to talk about it. Peo­ple are book­ing their hol­i­days around it. So it’s re­ally going to be a good time in the City of Swift Current,” Friesen said.

At the start of this past week the 2019 Western Canada Sum­mer Games medals were un­veiled.
