Jenny Hattum was crowned as the 2019 Frontier Days Ambassador by outgoing Ambassador Adrianna Simpson during Saturday’s Discover the Farm: A Farm Facts Experience.

Hattum was raised on a mixed farm south of Lac Pelletier where her family raises commercial Angus and Hereford cattle. She has been an active Wymark 4-H member for the past 13 years and thus a frequent visitor to Frontier Days.

“I just wanted to get more involved,” she said of her reason for applying to be Ambassador. “Other years I’ve been interested in it, but I just didn’t have enough time. But this year I think it’ll work out perfect.”

Hattum has just completed her first year at the University of Regina, where she completed a number of pre veterinarian courses, as well as taking accounting classes as she works towards a dual degree.

She admitted she is looking forward to walking through the familiar Frontier Days 4-H barns this year as Ambassador.

“Everybody helps everybody, and it’s so welcoming,” she said of the 4-H venues. “The first year I went I was in a super small club so I wasn’t too keen on going, but it was great. It was so open. I loved it.”

She will be busy during her term as Ambassador, participating in many Frontier Days activities, along with the CCA Finals Rodeo in the fall.

“I just think it will be great to just get out there and get involved. Because I’m from small town Saskatchewan, I live 30 minutes south of here. Over the years I could have had the opportunities, but I didn’t really get involved.”

“I think it’ll be great to get to talk to people, and especially the kids. I think it’ll be great to get involved with the kids. And I’m looking forward to the events too to be involved with the rodeos and the parade.”

She is also looking forward to being an ambassador for the rural way of life.

“That’s how I’ve been raised so it’s nice to be able to tell people about it and open their eyes. A lot of people don’t even know where their food comes from, so it’s nice to get that out there.” “I think it will be really rewarding.” The 81st Frontier Days Fair and Rodeo will be held on June 26 to 29 at Swift Current’s Kinetic Exhibition Park.
