Ability Bowl shatters previous record
The 32nd annual Ability Bowl rolled over its former record after a successful Saturday at the Frontier Bowling Lanes.
The 2019 edition of the fundraiser for the Saskabilities Swift Current Branch raised a new record total of $126,058 to erase the former record total of $105,102 set a year ago.
“We are humbled by the giving nature of the Swift Current community and the people of Southwest Saskatchewan.” said Michelle Poirier, Community Relations Coordinator at Saskabilities. “We are so thankful to everyone who contributed to the success of Rodeobowl. To the bowlers, sponsors, donors, volunteers and community members, the Swift Current Branch of Saskabilities says thanks for the amazing support.”
The Ability Bowl has expanded into a series of fundraisers towards a single goal. This year’s events kicked off with the Burns & Mcdonnell Pool Tournament, a fundraiser during Hockey Day in Canada, their annual Wing Night, along with a 50/50 draw with a grand prize of $5,715 which was won by Arnold Groves.
Ability Bowl 2019 attracted 43 teams and over 200 bowlers who collected over a combined 1,500 pledges this year. This is an increase from the 40 teams who participated in 2018.
The top individual fundraiser was Kerry Andres who brought in $5,230. The other fundraisers in the top 10 were: Dorothy Quebec - $4,795; Dwight Larter - $2,291; Avery Andres - $1,645; Karlson Orthner - $1,590; Jarrod Schellenberg - $1,400; Eric Molnar - $1,300; Tayla Reynolds - $1,065 Riley Wilson - $877; and Aaron Matthews - $865.
