Saskpower Windscape Kite Festival is this weekend

-

Organizers of the Saskpower Windscape Kite Festival and Long Day’s Night Music Festival are hoping that Mother Nature cooperates for the busy line-up events planned this weekend.

The 15th anniversary edition of the Kite Festival is set for June 22 and 23. Activities at their Marsden Street location run for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Sheri Florizone, Cultural Festivals Director, said that Windscape has attracted international professional kite flyers coming from as far away as Italy (Luca Piattoni), Columbia (Marco Aponte and Sayde Bruges) as well as the Philippines (Orlando Ongkingco). They will be joining featured performers and kite builders from across Canada and the United States.

“There’s so much going on that weekend up at the field, lots of children’s activities,” she explained.

One new attraction for children will be a hula hoop station, and they are offering a pinwheel making station to replace handing out helium balloons.

Visitors to Windscape can also look forward to seeing quad flying exhibitions by Team Kite Life and the Kite Collective from the Pacific North West.

She is also excited about the Long Day’s Night Music Festival, which beings tonight with Reverend Horton Heat’s Rockabilly Invasion. The line-up also featured Delhi 2 Dublin on Friday, The Sadies on Saturday, and a grand finale by Shred Kelly on Sunday.

“We’ve got a very fantastic line-up,” she said of the four nights of music.

She noted they had strong early bird ticket sales, and people can still purchase festival passes and single concert tickets on-line, with remaining individual tickets available at the tent.
